Doc Mojo:
Doc MOJO....was a 6 piece band based out of Jacksonville, Florida from 2008 through 2011. When this group formed in September 2008, it was a kind of "pure magic" from the beginning. Originally the band started out as a power trio, consisting of Tommy, Butch and Mark. However, serious thought was given and more was wanted for that "MOJO" sound. The group took a big turn and the magic happened with the additions of Charles and Geoff. Instantly the dynamics of the band changed, but it wasn't quite enough for everyone's satisfaction. Finally, the missing piece of the puzzle came to light when Joel joined the band. From the first few notes, they all knew that this was the sound they had been searching for. "PURE MAGIC", or better said as "MOJO"....is the only way to describe what you hear and feel from this 6 piece power house.
After the untimely passing of Butch in November of 2010, we weren’t sure that we would continue without him. The band took some time to reflect, regroup and decide on a new direction. We felt that Butch would have wanted us to carry on. So we chose to make a go of it and figure out how we would like to rebuild ourselves. The remaining members; Tommy, Joel, Charles and Geoff sought out a new bass player which turned out to be Gerry. We then decided that rather than try to fill Butch’s big shoes with a guitarist/vocalist, we would recruit an old friend that Tommy and Joel had played with in the past. So Chip joined the band with his vocal and keyboard skills to round out what we feel is sort of an “orchestral” collection. With the talents of Charles and Chip covering vast possibilities of keyboard and synthesizer laden music, we’ve ventured into territories of song selections and styles that most outfits just can’t go to.
The result: a new, reformed and reenergized Doc Mojo, ready to bring big songs and big sound to a big collection of audiences and friends.
The group later disbanded in 2011, with some members retiring while others moved on to other musical projects. The site, we keep alive for nostalgia and to honor our brothers passed. Feel free to browse and listen and reflect on the great times we had playing our favorite musical collections.
